LEED-EBOM 2012 is Around the Corner

LEED-EBOM
has become perhaps the single most important roadmap for Green Cleaning in the professional cleaning industry as its prerequisite and credits shape customer demand for cleaning chemicals, equipment, paper, liners, mats, tools, training, reporting and more. As such, it is important to consider its second round of proposed revisions that are now available for public comment.

The 2nd Public Comment Period will be open until September 14, 2011.

The drafts currently available for public comment feature updated language and scorecards, and include responses to comments with points associated with all credits.  Members of the public can comment on any changes made since the first comment period, which ran from Nov. 8, 2010 until Jan. 19, 2011. USGBC will hold free member webcasts in the coming weeks detailing the changes between the first and second public comment drafts.

So please take the time to review the LEED 2012 Rating System Drafts and submit your comments.

The USGBC provided a "red-lined" version for each Rating System Draft, which may make it easier to identify the proposed changes. You will notice numerous proposed changes including:

  • A requirement for strategies on laundry, ware washing and other cleaning activities, as well as a strategy  to replace multifold paper hand towels found in the Prerequisite
  • Increases in the purchase requirements for the products and equipment credit
  • Additional compliance paths such as including iSSA’s CIMS-GB and Green Seal’s GS-42 Standards to meet the Cleaning Program credit
  • Additional compliance paths such as EPA’s DfE and ISSA/EcoForm’s new information-based label to meet the requirements of the cleaning product credit
  • Efforts to remove barriers to innovations

The Ashkin Group and Green Cleaning Network encourage you to provide feedback on the cleaning prerequisite and individual credits and include recommendations for resolving any identified concerns, clarifying language, new comments and suggestions that will make LEED-EBOM better and stronger. We want to allow the professional cleaning industry to have a stronger collective voice, by creating a simple page that will allow you to submit your comments.
